Celebrating National Flag Adoption Day: Honoring India's Tricolor Symbol of Unity and Freedom
India's National Flag Adoption Day, observed
on July 22, marks a significant milestone in the nation's history. On this day
in 1947, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the tricolor flag as the
official flag of the Dominion of India, just weeks before the country gained
independence from British rule on August 15, 1947.
The Indian national flag, designed by Pingali
Venkayya, is a horizontal tricolor of deep saffron at the top, white in the
middle, and dark green at the bottom in equal proportion. In the center of the
white band, there is a navy blue Ashoka Chakra with 24 spokes. Each color and
symbol on the flag has a profound meaning: saffron represents courage and
sacrifice, white symbolizes truth and peace, and green signifies faith and
chivalry. The Ashoka Chakra embodies the eternal wheel of law and dharma.
Celebrating National Flag Adoption Day reminds every Indian of the nation's journey to freedom, unity, and integrity. It is a day to honor the symbol of India's sovereignty and to reflect on the values and principles it represents.
